Securing Your Trex Decking: The Best Decking Clips for the Job

What is Trex Decking?

Trex is one of the most popular brands for composite decking. They make wood-alternative decking products that are used across the globe, and constantly release new designs and innovations for a variety of outdoor purposes.

Trex products are popular for many reasons. Compared to traditional wood decks, composite decking from Trex requires less maintenance while mimicking the warm elegance of a real wood board. They can withstand years in the sun and tolerate all the weather elements, including heat, cold, snow, and rain. They don’t rot, split, or warp, don’t attract wood-boring insects, and require no annual painting or staining.

There are other artificial options besides Trex, including PVC deck boards. PVC tends to be less environmentally-friendly because it’s produced mostly from original plastic, while Trex boards are 95%-recycled plastic. PVC is also more likely to fade, warp, and shrink than Trex products.

For these reasons and more, Trex has become one of the most prominent decking options across the country. If you plan on installing these boards, you will need the right clips for Trex decking.

Tiger Claw TC‑G hidden fasteners are a fantastic option for Fiberon, Veranda, and Trex grooved decking material. The clips have upward-pointing prongs that grab into the top surface of the groove in order to create a firm hold. The clips automatically space the boards 3/16th of an inch, so installers can simply butt the next board against the clip for an easy installation.

The hidden fasteners for grooved decking are ideal for Trex composite boards, as they perfectly fit the board size and work in conjunction with this popular decking material.

When using these clips for Trex decking, there are two installation methods. The first is a hand-driven option. With this method, the installer uses the provided screws and manually screws them into the clips.

The second installation method, the faster of the two, is to use the Tiger Claw Pneumatic Gun. With this system, the fasteners are loaded into the gun and the clips are fixed, one at a time, to the end of the gun for a quicker, less manual installation.
